Find Remote Work on FlexJobs

There are many remote job searching sites that are full of crap and scams.  But I’m happy to say that FlexJobs is NOT one of them.

FlexJobs is a legitimate website where you can find high quality, well curated job opportunities.   You can search and set up alerts for every skill level and job option.    Entry-level to executive.  Part-time to full-time.  Freelance or employee.  Fully remote or “some travel required.”

Their search tools are very easy to use and the process to setup your profile is easy.   I was even pretty impressed by the number of Skills Tests that they offer.   The Skills Tests are free and help your application stand out by highlighting your qualifications and seriousness as a job seeker.

Find Telecommute Jobs and Gigs on Craigslist

While you need to search Craigslist with a hint of skepticism, there are plenty of legitimate people out there looking for help.   I have two semi-regular clients that I do remote work for that I found from Craigslist ads.  General rule of thumb, if it looks too good to be true or is really vague in it’s description….ignore it and move on.

Once you set up a free account, you can set up searches around the criteria of jobs/gigs you are looking for.   Under jobs, you can actually add a search criteria to show you only jobs that have been marked as “telecommute.”

LinkedIn

Use your network on LinkedIn!  By keeping in touch with previous co-workers, you never know what opportunities may arise.   Unlike other sites, these people actually know you and how awesome you are!

Keep your profile up to date and highlight that you are open to remote work opportunities and what your availability is (full or part time).

Become a Virtual Assistant

Virtual assistants do many of the jobs/tasks that office assistants do.  I (Kris) have my own business as a virtual assistant in addition to managing Coffee Cups and Wanderlust and I’ve had jobs that pay $15/hour all the way up to $35/hour.

Think about what skills you have to offer as an office assistant:

  • Microsoft Office products
  • Bookkeeping
  • Social media manager
  • Business travel planner
  • Customer service (email, phone)

What are all the ways you could help handle the mundane tasks of a small business so they can work on building their business?

Invest Using Acorns

This one is going to help you make money with really having to do much work.  If you’re like most of us and wish your money would just take care of itself, consider starting an investment account through Acorns.

Acorns is the leading micro investing app in the U.S. It’s easy-to-use, quick to set up and great for folks who want to get in on investing in stocks and bonds but really have absolutely no idea what you are doing. (Yep, that’s me!)

Teach English through Skype

Now to be honest this is one that neither of us have done but I know of a number of digital nomads that teach English online to students all over the world.  Nearly all companies will require a few things from you:

  • A solid internet connection, webcam and microphone setup.
  • Be a native from Canada, US or UK.
  • A college degree or are currently enrolled.
  • Have a passionate, positive attitude for teaching
There seems to be a definite leader when it comes to getting trained to teach English online.  myTEFL offers comprehensive training and certification that will help you better your chances to landing a job with a reputable company like VIPKID or Qkids which are available for Canadian or American Citizens.
There is also a more informal site out there, Cambly, that is available for all teachers.  It doesn’t pay nearly as much but will be for students that may already speak some English but want to hone in their skills in conversation.

Sell Your Photos as Stock Photography

This one is worth mentioning twice.  I have a full article on this topic since it’s one of our major focuses when it comes to residual, passive income from our travels.

If you love taking pictures and have an eye for photography, you can upload and sell your photos online.   And the best part is you only have to do it once.  Upload it and if someone buys it today or 5 years from now, you’ll earn a commission on it.

Read our full article on how to make money selling stock photography and our recommendations for the best websites to sell them on.
